Classification Essay

                                                                Types of neighbors

The majority of people have neighbors, that much is obvious. It is the type of neighbors that people have, that it is different. There are many types of neighbors: Nosey neighbors, neighbors that keep to themselves, bible thrumping neighbors, to name a few.
Nosey neighbors seem to always be watching your every move. For example, my own neighbors spend most of their time peeking through their window to see what everyone is doing. One of them actually pretends to go out for a walk just to see what is happening in the neighborhood. The neighborhood should name her the official neighborhood watch.
Just like one neighbor could always be watching, another will keep to him or herself.  This type of neighbor hardly causes any problems. However, sometimes we just do not know what kind of person he or she is. A serial killer could be living next door for all we know.
Next, there are also friendly neighbors. Those tend to be the most helpful type of neighbors. They are likely to help you when you need it. Usually, they greet you whenever they see you. Finnally, there are bible trumpers. Now; I have no problem with any religion, I just cannot stand someone preaching to me at 6a.m. on a weekend or at night after just getting home from a long day of work.
There are many kinds of neighbors. You may have encountered one or many of them. If your neighbor becomes your friend or a person you cannot stand, it is up to you.

Comparison and Contrast Essay

Two examples of Gothic literature are Edgar Allan Poe's "The Fall of the House of Usher" and William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily". Gothic literature usually includes eerie settings, pessimism, and evil generally prevails over good. Those traits exist in both stories. Since both stories are written in a similar style, the main characters share traits.
Both Roderick Usher and Emily Grierson deal with death; however they do not react the same way. One character, though dealing with death is remorseful and not mad, while the other is not remorseful and quite insane. A major similarity between Roderick Usher and Emily Grierson is death. Roderick's sister, Madeline, suposedly dies. He buries her in a tomb in his house and later realized that she is not dead. He unknowingly buries her alive! Conversely, Emily Grierson poisons he "lover" with arsenic, after discovering that he is not serious about a relationship. In a way, murder exists on both stories.
Despite some similarities, there are many differences between both characters. It is clear that Emily is insane and, contrastly, Roderick is not. Emily is in denial about paying taxes, kills a man, sleeps next to his corpse, and sees nothing wrong with it. Ms. Grierson is utterly mad. Roderick, on the contrary, is just ill. He honestly believed his sister was dead, and felt fear after realizing it was not so. Roderick says, "I have no abhorrence of dangers, except in its absolute effect-in terror". Basically, Roderick is just fearful and misunderstood, not a mad man. Roderick felt remorse over burying his siter alive; although he does not try to fix the problem, he felt sorry. Emily, on the other hand, shows no remorse and keeps a dead body in her attic and sleeps next to it. That is just crazy.
In conclusion, though there are many similarities between Roderick and Emily, there are more differences between both characters. Emily was clearly insane, while Roderick was just ill and made a (huge) mistake.

Example Essay

Preconceived notions are the locks on the door to wisdom. Many groups of people have become victims of prejuice. The source of this intolerance and hatred usually comes from petty gossip, sometimes because of a person's looks or choice in outfit. But, what is prejudice? Prejudice is often a negative opinion formed without having suficient knowledge.
Countless people have been victims of prejudice at some point of their lives. And that judgement is what keeps people from seeing the good in others. For example; someone who wears a lot of chains would be depicted as a thug;or, a person who dresses in all-black clothing, maybe with piercings or other accesories, could be labeled as evil, or even a satanist. People are also judged because of their hobbies or tastes. Some people assume all skateboarders have drug-related problems.
These days, even your nationality is reason enough to be judged. According to prejudice, Irishmen are alcoholics; Americans are fat, loud, and obnoxious; Chinese people are horrible drivers, Colombians are drug dealers, Puertoricans are "hoods" and so on. It is simply not fair to judge an entire race because of a small group that may behave in a centain matter. Well, people say "a few bad apples spoil the bunch".
No one seems to be safe from intolerance. Hateful people seem to always find a reason to hate. George Aiken once siad: "if we were all to wake up one day and find that everyone was the same race, creed, and color, people would still find a reason to judge others. It might just be human nature, or maybe it is insecurity talking.
It is never too late to give up on prejudice, on ignorance. If individuals were to ignore appearances, this could be a much more peaceful world to live in. Judgement keeps people apart. One does not simply shake hands with a clenched fist. Ignorance is an illness that must be treated. Until that day, it will prevent people from living in harmony.
